As Avolio & Yammarino (2013) points out, the activities of the SMEs’ relate to leadership, the all-important, driving force of the organization. Leadership is needed to move an organization forward among a changing, competitive landscape by imagining, motivating, organizing, managing and leading employees to a higher level of performance. Organizational performance, as a result of leadership effectiveness of the leaders, contributes to the firms’ success or failure. The outcomes of leadership as a result of effective leadership influence the satisfaction, work effectiveness and efforts of the employees and leaders in their organizations (Madanchian, Hussein, Noordin, & Taherdoost, 2016)

The SMEs need to transit from hierarchy to teamwork that requires the application of the principles of team style management. This programme covers all the essential skills necessary to be an effective team leader. There will be discussions of the special requirements of being a team leader as opposed to a traditional manager. The programme will concentrate on all of the factors essential to the building of a high-performance team. It will also highlight obstacles to team development and methods for overcoming these obstacles. In particular there will be an emphasis on dealing effectively with both team member conflict and poor performing team members. All participants will leave the programme with ideas they can immediately implement in their work environment.
