Senior Trainer and Coach

Norshila or Shila to her friends and participants has had a long history in the field of tertiary education and training – 29 years long. Despite that, she remains as passionate and energetic about teaching and training as she did when she first started in 1987.

Shila graduated with an MA in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) as well as a BA (Honors) in Applied Linguistics from Southern Illinois University, USA. She was one of the very few international students who was selected as a Teaching Assistant at the university as it required a near native speaker level of mastery of the English language.
She started her career as a Lecturer at Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM then) in 1987. There she was exposed to teaching both young adults as well as working adults. This sparked her interest in teaching the adult learners. She stayed with ITM for 12 years before joining a private university.

Shila went on to join Universiti Tenaga Nasional in 1999. She was there for barely 6 months when she was made the Head of the Department of Communication and Languages. She also attended a course at the Regional English Language Training Center, Singapore where she was awarded a Specialist Certificate in Curriculum Development & Design. In addition to her lecturing, she developed programs for and started training the staff of Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

She knew then that her calling was in training. In 2007, she successfully completed the Certified Professional Training Program (CPT) organized by the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) which is recognized by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRDC). Since opting for an early retirement, Shila has decided to leave the university and embark full time as a Corporate Trainer. She has been training regularly for MIM’s public programs as well as many in-house programs since then. She designs modules and trains nonexecutives, executives, assistant Managers and Managers alike. Participants have all loved her approach, frankness and friendly demeanor.

Shila wanted to bring more to her training and participants. In 2013, she enrolled in an Accelerated Learning Certification Program and passed with flying colors.
She is one of the pioneer trainers in Malaysia to be awarded as a Certified Accelerated Learning Practitioner by the International Association of Accelerated Learning Professionals (IAALP), USA. Accelerated learning (A.L.) is the most advanced teaching and learning method in use today. It’s a total system for speeding and enhancing both the design process and the learning processes. With this new knowledge and skills, she is able to actively involve the whole person, using physical activity, creativity, music, images, color, and other methods designed to get people deeply involved in their own learning. Shila is very excited to bring this to her training sessions.

In 2016, her thirst for knowledge led her to be certified as an NLP Practitioner by the American Board of Neuro-Linguistics Programming (ABNLP) and a Certified Timeline ™ Therapy Practitioner by the Timeline Therapy Association. Her latest conquest is she is now a Certified Language and Behavior Profile Practitioner. Her thirst for knowledge did not end there. Last August, she took up yet another challenge. She is now a Certified Hypnotist and Hypnotherapist from the USA. She is now very certain she is more prepared than ever to help her participants overcome their language and skill insecurities.
